2. The Advisory Committee

3. Foyer Pere Laval

1. Networking
Following the colloquium organised by Terre De Paix in November 2006 in collaboration with the Ombudsperson and the university of Mauritius, it had been decided that we would explore possibilities of working with other organisations both individually and in the form of networks. As at now, one major action has been initiated with foyer Pere Laval in view of addressing the issue of children in need of leaving the residential structures when nearing their majority. A number of activities have already been organised and follow-up actions are now in progress.

2. The Advisory committee

The Advisory committee recommended the documentation of the work of Terre De Paix in the form of booklets. This work has started and the scripts are being read by a number of persons for opinion.

The Advisory committee recommended as well that Terre De Paix becomes more concerned with the issue of drug addiction and alcoholism. In this respect, sessions have already been organised in line with the general action plan in place in the context of our capacity building project.

Furthermore, two major activities were held recently at the institutional level of the organisation:

1. The holding of a workshop ‘Regar kritik lor nou laksyon dan letan’ on Saturday 29 march 2008 and
2. The holding of the annual general meeting of the association on 30th March 2008.

1. Workshop ‘Regar kritik lor nou laksyon dan letan’

Running now through the 10th year of its restructured action, the raison d’etre of the services provided by our organisation was discussed. There was unanimity as to the pertinence of these services.

Participants were then required to critically examine the services provided though the revisiting the concepts used in the setting up of the services. Then these concepts were articulated with the main philosophical basis of our action to show the extent to which these basic ideas still hold good for the action of our organisation. It was agreed that all those concerned with the action being carried out should continue to reinforce and nurture their practical involvement with the sound concepts of family-centered residential care, child-centered approach, alternative education based on the empowerment model among others. These concepts themselves stem from our deep attachment to human rights.

The workshop carried out an evaluation of the actual capacities of the organisation in relation to the services provided. Firstly, the institutional capacity of the organisation was discussed. It was agreed that efforts should be made to enable the institutional structures to function better. Secondly, this was done by looking at the means at our disposal and matching them with the actual services provided and the needs of the beneficiaries of the services. Way and means were then discussed so that this action becomes sustainable in the context of further development of the services.

This workshop has prompted the participants to reiterate their commitment in the action of the organisation. A follow-up workshop is scheduled in two months’ time.

2. The holding of the annual general meeting of the association on 30th March 2008.

The annual general meeting of the association was held on Sunday 30th March 2008. Members took note of the state of affairs of the organisation during the year 2007. The scope of work for year 2008 was presented as well. The association has elected a new managing committee composed of the following persons: Ambiga Carpenen, Shiam Reedha, Victor Bundhoo, Alain Muneean, Marie Lourdes Mecklenbergh, Claudine Lam, Paul de Monglofier, Randheer Neerohoo, Mary Coopan, Ahmad Tallybally, Satyam Purahoo, Rajen Valayden.

3. Foyer Pere Laval

As a direct result of the colloquium organised by Fondation pour L’Enfance Terre De Paix in 2006, a bilateral collaboration started in 2007 with the Foyer Pere Laval, an institution which provides residential care to children. This collaboration was meant to enhance our respective services at the level of those children preparing to leave our structures.
